Hotel sheets and towels: why is quality textiles important in a hotel?

When it comes to providing a good experience for hotel guests, there are many factors that play a role, such as location, service, cleanliness, facilities and so on. But there is one that is sometimes overlooked and can make all the difference: textiles.

Hotel linen includes sheets, towels, curtains, bathrobes, cushions and other elements that dress the rooms and bathrooms. These elements not only fulfil a practical function, but also contribute to creating a cosy, comfortable and elegant atmosphere.

The quality of a hotel's textiles is highly valued by guests, as it is what is in direct contact with their skin and what gives them a feeling of softness, freshness, warmth and cleanliness. Quality textiles can make guests feel at home or even better, and make them want to repeat their stay or recommend the hotel to others.

Conversely, poor quality textiles can cause discomfort, irritation, allergies or odour, and create a negative impression about the hotel and its level of hygiene and care. Poor quality textiles can ruin the guests' experience and cause them not to return or to leave bad reviews.

This is why it is essential that hotels choose their linen well and renew it periodically. But how do you know which textile is the most suitable for a hotel, and what aspects should be taken into account when selecting textiles?

The importance of the correct selection of the fabric and the making of the hotel textile

When choosing textiles for a hotel, there are two key aspects to consider: weaving and tailoring. The fabric is the material from which the textile is made, and the tailoring is the process by which the textile is cut, sewn and finished.

The weave determines the properties of the textile, such as strength, durability, breathability, absorbency, feel and appearance. The most commonly used fabric in hotel textiles is cotton, as it offers many advantages:

  • It is natural and ecological.

  • It is hypoallergenic and does not irritate the skin.

  • It is soft and comfortable.

  • It is breathable and cool.

  • It is absorbent and dries quickly.

  • It is resistant and durable.

  • It is easy to wash and iron.

  • It looks stylish and versatile.

However, not all cottons are the same. There are different types of cotton depending on their origin, quality and treatment. For example, Egyptian cotton is considered one of the best in the world for its fibre length, fineness and lustre. Organic cotton is cotton grown without pesticides or chemical fertilisers. Combed cotton is cotton that has undergone a process to remove impurities and shorter fibres.

These differences influence the price, quality and performance of the textile. It is therefore important to know the characteristics of the cotton to be used and to choose the most suitable for each type of product. For example, for bed sheets it is recommended to use a high quality cotton, such as Egyptian or combed cotton, as it offers greater softness and durability. For towels, it is recommended to use an absorbent and resistant cotton, such as organic or Egyptian.

The quality of the textile is also influenced by the way it is made, as it determines its shape, size, finish and design. The tailoring should be professional and careful to avoid defects such as loose threads, twisted seams, frayed edges or incorrect measurements. The tailoring must be adapted to the needs and preferences of each hotel, offering personalised and exclusive products.

The tailoring should also take into account the use and maintenance of the textile, facilitating washing, drying and ironing. For example, for sheets, it is recommended to use a fabric that avoids wrinkles, such as percale or satin. For towels, it is recommended to use a fabric that avoids wear and tear, such as terry or jacquard.

The textiles in a hotel are a fundamental element that influences guest satisfaction and loyalty. It is therefore important to choose quality textiles that offer comfort, hygiene and elegance. To this end, the fabric and manufacture of the textile must be taken into account, and high quality cotton products and professional manufacture must be chosen. This will allow you to offer an excellent service and differentiate yourself from the competition.
